Action Reports

aewacs can notify you of it's actions and the results. You may create a filter and any action that passes the filter will trigger a notification. The notification will go to a Slack web hook URL.

Slack Connection 

Slack is an online team communication tool. See https://slack.com

Create a Slack web hook URL as described in the documentation of Slack. You may find the Slack app Incoming WebHooks useful.

In aewacs go to Action Report → Edit email and Slack connection, enter your Slack web hook URL and click Save. 

Email Connection 

Email is NOT supported. Even though it may be visible in the interface, notification through email is NOT supported.

Creating a Filter 

A filter defines what aewacs should notify you of.

Click Action Report → Add a report.

You will see some fields you may use to filter on and below that a list of items that pass this filter.

If you do not see any row in the list click More until you see some actions. You will need to have some actions already performed by aewacs. This is because the filter fields will only allow you tot select existing values shown in the list.

After changing field values click Find to update the list.

Fields

The fields are described below.

Action

Action represents the type of action that aewacs performed, for example creating an AMI or snapshot.

Trigger Name

A trigger is a schedule causing the action. In this field you may select the name of the schedule. (If different types of schedule have the same name, then actions of both will pass the filter unless you set the action field.)

Object Name

The object is the item on which the action was performed. For example the EC2 instance of which an AMI was made. You may filter by object name. 

Status

Status represents how far the action has proceeded. The exact meaning and possible states depends on the type of action.

Saving the filter

When you are satisfied with the filter you defined click Save. Then enter a name and a description. Check Notify using - Slack unless you want to save without getting notified of actions. Email is NOT supported. Click Save.

What happens next

At every status change of every action that supports notification aewacs will check the defined filters. For any filter that matches the event, aewacs will send a notification (if Notify using Slack is checked in the filter). The notification will contain event details and a link to your filter. Note that by the time you look at the filter, the action status may already have changed and may even not match your filter any more.
